On September 2^nd the first Germany-wide PYREG® plant for sewage sludge utilisation with phosphorus recycling was officially put into operation.

During the opening ceremony of the new sewage sludge drying and mineralization system Thomas Giese, secretary of state for environmental purposes, stated “this innovative system to have nationwide pilot function” and Dr. Ulrich Kleemann, president of Struktur- und Genehmigungsdirektion (SGD) Nord (Northern Structure and Approval Management) commended: “Particularly the energy efficient working method of the waste water treatment plant and the resource-saving recycling of the sewage sludge serve as a model.” This project has been supported with 995.000 euro by the German state Rhineland-Palatinate.
